Day 3: Selah — Give Yourself Permission to Pause

Today was supposed to be Day 3.

I had already been thinking about what I should write next. I felt like I needed to keep going, keep producing, keep following the story that had already been written.

And then I realized something.

I was stressing myself out.

I was putting pressure on myself to produce.

To perform.

To keep up.

To have the next thing ready because I had decided that was what I should be doing.

And isn't that exactly what we do sometimes?

We create a list of expectations for ourselves and then become frustrated when we can't keep up with the person we think we're supposed to be.

So today, instead of pushing through, I'm choosing something different.

I'm choosing to pause.

Selah.

What Does Selah Mean?

Selah is a word found throughout the Bible, particularly in the Psalms.

While its exact meaning isn't completely certain, it is commonly understood as a pause or musical interlude—a moment to stop, reflect, and take in what was just spoken or sung.

And today, that's exactly what I need.

A pause.

Not because I've failed.

Not because I don't have anything to say.

Not because the journey has stopped.

But because sometimes the pause is part of the journey.

Maybe You Need a Selah Too

Maybe you're feeling the pressure to keep going.

To answer every message.

To take care of everyone.

To finish the list.

To meet everyone's expectations.

To accomplish the next goal.

To be the perfect mom.

The perfect partner.

The perfect daughter.

The perfect employee.

The perfect version of yourself.

Maybe you're exhausted from constantly feeling like you have to produce something to prove something.

If that's you, I want to remind you of something I'm reminding myself of today:

You are allowed to pause.

You don't have to earn rest.

You don't have to wait until everything is finished.

You don't have to explain why you need a moment.

And taking a pause doesn't mean you're giving up.

Sometimes it means you're listening.

Sometimes it means you're breathing.

Sometimes it means you're giving yourself enough space to hear what your heart has been trying to tell you.

Today, I'm giving myself permission to stop.

To breathe.

To reflect.

To simply be.

And tomorrow?

I'll continue the story.

But today...

Selah.

Pause. Breathe. Reflect. You don't have to rush your journey.

I'll see you tomorrow. ❤️
